The Jimenez Family

Hailey girl...

I know you are excited to celebrate this big day...

but I was kind of hoping you would just stop getting older...

and stay this button nose cutie...

because you're not so little anymore!!

You still like to laugh and be silly.

You still like to snuggle and cuddle.

You still like to play make-believe and create fantasies.

You still fit right in that special spot in Mommy or Daddy's lap.

You still like to hear library books being read to you.

You still like to hold my hand when we are walking...and revel me with stories.

You still have us all loving you like crazy.
Sweet Hailey girl...Happy 6th Birthday!!
We are so thankful for the sunshine and joy that you bring everyone you meet.
We are praying that God will continue to bless you and keep you and draw you closer to Him!
But...please...can you just stay little??

Strawberry picking is a FAVORITE tradition for all four kiddos!
But with the crazy weather we have had lately the strawberry harvest was not as plentiful.
We were worried that all of the juiciest ones had already been picked over...

but we were in luck!!

As long as we looked deep enough into the rows...

we found some GORGEOUS ones!!

Enough to fill several boxes!
After all that picking...the kids were ready to try out...

all of the yummy treats!

With all of that sugar, it was time to burn it off on the playground.

The kids had a blast with the water wars...

and the maze...the bikes...and the slides.

We go for the strawberries but stay for the fun and the treats!!!

We spent Easter Saturday with some friends...

soaking up the beautiful sun by the lake...

and enjoying a HUGE egg hunt!

The little kids and the big kids...hunting for ALL of the eggs that were hidden by their parents.

There was a bit of strategizing going on...and then they were off!

Jackson searched high and low for his eggs...

and even had some Michael Jordan moves getting them!

Hailey was a little worried that there wouldn't be any eggs left for her...

but this dynamic duo ended up finding quite a few of them!

After the egg hunt, we headed to church to serve in the preschool for the Easter service.
The little kids loved these two "BIG" kids!
They really did help out a ton.
And it was fun to serve together as a family.

The next day we headed over to Uncle Jeremy's church so we could hear him lead worship for Easter.

And then it was back home for ANOTHER egg hunt!
They were making sad faces because their baskets were empty...but that didn't last long!!
Easter 2017.
We are forever grateful for the riches and the depths of God's perfect love towards us.
That He sent His Son in His marvelous grace to rescue us.
And bring us into relationship with Him.
Hallelujah!
What a Savior!

Middle school years are hard.
It is that peculiar time between childhood and adulthood.
When awkwardness abounds...change happens...and control seems lost.
It is hard.
Thankfully, we have a "pre-teen" class at our church.
So instead of rushing them into middle school as soon as they are in sixth grade...
they use that year to build intentional relationships.
To lay out expectations of what the years ahead will be like.
To grow them.
To challenge them.
To love on them.
The culmination of this year is the Blessings Retreat.
A weekend away with Mom and Dad for the sole purpose of blessing our pre-teen.

We spent quite a lot of time planning out our special gift we would give her on the last evening together.
We settled on a blessing box that was filled with "open when" letters.

We spent the drive up to the mountains talking about our own pre-teen years.
Amy had questions about our most embarrassing moment...relationships...challenges...etc.

Then once we were there...it was all FUN!!

We had a scavenger hunt...

and then a very LONG hike up the mountain...

After the hike the girls were rewarded with s'mores and smiles!

That evening we played some fun games...most of which had hidden meanings.
This one in particular...Amy was supposed to try and match whatever pattern of blocks Jason did but without being able to talk to each other.
The message was clear...our effectiveness in parenting is more in modeling and patterning a life of godly living more than it is to be about "telling" them how to live.
The final event of the weekend was the blessing.
Jason and I both wrote out a blessing for Amy that we read over her.
We washed her feet and confessed our shortcomings as parents and asked for forgiveness.
Then we gave her our present for her and blessed her.
It was absolutely beautiful...a night we will remember for years to come.
We are so thankful for our precious daughter...who is a pre-teen...and hopefully this year was a made a bit easier by all of those that have loved on her and blessed her!
