The Jimenez Family

Easter usually catches me a bit off guard.
Maybe because I am counting down the days till the end of school.
Maybe because the date of Easter changes every year.
Maybe because the weather around me doesn't seem to correlate with the correct season.
Maybe because Spring seems to be synonymous with busy.
Whatever the case may be...I usually remember that Easter is coming...and scramble to put something together for the kids to do to in remembrance.

Not this year.
I was determined to have a week long of activities that kept our minds engaged and our hearts focused.
Every day of the week, the kids had something to do that centered around the Passion week.
One blustery day, we headed to the park for a scavenger hunt with friends.
Each of the kids had a list of items they needed to find...something sharp, something colorful, something alive, etc.
Once they had their collection, we sat down and read through the Scriptures that went with each item.
Something sharp represented the thorns that were placed on Jesus' brow.
Something alive represented our new life in Christ.
It was a cold...but fun day for the kids to tangible learn about the Easter story.

We also did plenty of crafts...when I say plenty it means we did enough crafts to suffice me for the rest of the year! ;-)
We did stained glass crosses...coin covered crosses - because Jesus paid it all....resurrection rolls and several others.
The kids had a good time creating and getting messy.

Saturday before Easter we hosted several families for brunch and egg hunt.
Unfortunately...it rained and rained and rained the entire time everyone was here.
We had people bursting the seem of the house...but everyone still had a great time!

We even managed to convince the dads to endure the rain and hide the eggs for the kids...though given the rain the eggs were pretty easy to find.

The kids ended up soggy...muddy...grassy...and happy! :-)

Sunday morning was spent in beautiful reflection of our Savior's sacrifice.
We were able to have several great conversations with the kids and listened to what Easter meant to them.
It was a fun...memorable week...once again reminding us to keep our eyes on the Author and Perfecter of our faith!

Hailey Anne Jimenez...
Sweet little girl...how can it be that you are already THREE???
You are such a precious gift to your family...bringing us lots of smiles...hugs...kisses...laughs...and sunshine.

You have such a sensitive heart to all those around you.
Making sure that everyone is included in your love,
you have successfully wrapped all of our hearts around yours!

You love to color...play dollies...dress up...make messes...
play in the sandbox...go for long walks...and play with your siblings.

Looking back through your three short years of life...it is impossible to find a picture without you either hugging or kissing on someone you love. That is who you are...a sweet little cuddle bug.
We pray that as the years go by and life comes more and more into focus...that you will continue to overflow your love onto others. That Christ will be the center of your life. That love will be the theme of your song. And that His heart will be clearly seen throughout all that you do.

Hailey girl...we thank our Lord God for the precious gift of your life.
For your radiant smile and precious laughter.
You truly are our joy and delight...happy birthday!!!
We love you!
It has been a long winter. I know it comes every year...and most times I enjoy it wholeheartedly. I love sweaters and jeans...hot cocoa and pie...snuggly blankets and warm fires. But after awhile...I am ready for newness of life. For freshness. For rebirth. For pops of color and multiple shades of green clashing with the brilliant blue sky. For long afternoons spent playing outside. So while there is always going to be winter...spring is sure to follow!

Thankfully....we've had plenty of things to keep us busy...even in the midst of cold, rainy days!

We've had birthday parties...and friends to celebrate!

We've had tea parties (furnished with Amy's special new tea set!).

And smack dab in the middle of all our fun...Jackson got glasses!!!
He was actually excited to get them...taking his place in the male Jimenez tradition.
And he is still the cutest kid on the block...with those chubby cheeks and sweet lil smile...the glasses are a perfect addition!
Now Hailey wants her own pair...but we had to settle for safety goggles!

We've had friends coming to stay! Our sweet little Blythe came for several days...and was an immediate part of the family!
In fact, there were several times during her stay that the little kids asked if we could just adopt her :-)

And of course, Amy always has a creative idea up her sleeve. Be it imaginary play...scavenger hunts...craft ideas...or a play to put on...she gets everyone involved...and has a ton of fun!

Now we are holding our breath...waiting for those warm spring days.
It has been a very LONG winter...but spring is sure to follow!!!
There have been many times in my life that I have found myself uttering the words...I could never_______. Looking on into other peoples' lives and putting myself into their shoes...wondering if I could do what they do. Thinking that it would be beyond my abilities...and beyond what I would feel comfortable with...or called...or even willing to do.

Just as often, I have had others look into my life...put themselves into my shoes...and I hear them say to me, "I could never _____."  Be it homeschool. Sidewalk counsel at an abortion mill. Pastor's wife. Mother of four kids. Support a new ministry. Walk by faith. Etc.

And it has made me stop and think...what DO we think we are capable of? What small circle of comfort have we oft allowed ourselves to stay in...simply because we fear the unknown? Because we rely solely on our natural gifts and talents...and neglect to put faith in the One who calls us in the first place.

Then Moses said to the Lord, "Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue." The Lord said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes him mute or deaf,or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now then, go and I, even I, will be with your mouth, and teach you what you are to say." But he said, "Please, Lord, now send the message by whomever You will." Then the anger of the Lord burned against Moses, and He said, "Is there not your brother Aaron the Levite?"
Exodus 4:10-14

Moses was destined to rule a nation. He was set apart by the Lord even as a baby. Saved by the faith of his parents from the ruthless ruler of Egypt. Brought up as royalty in the household of Pharaoh. Heir to the throne. He knew he was born to lead. But who was he to lead?
Moses was constantly aware of the struggle around him. Watching his Hebrew brothers groaning under the weight of their bondage. Until it became too much for him to merely witness...and he engaged himself in their strife. Banished from the kingdom...led into the wilderness...leading only sheep. What a demotion...from kingdom authority...to shepherd's status.
Naturally, after forty years spent reliving that same fated moment over and over again in his mind, he was more than surprised when God asked him to be a leader...of the Hebrew nation...to their exodus.

He doubted his abilities at first...which is understandable.  He has been in charge of only sheep...not even his sheep...his father-in-laws sheep. He has fallen from grace in the eyes of his nation. He is a wanted man by the Egyptians. So perhaps he might not be the best person chosen for this monumental task? Right, God?

Graciously, God reassures him of not just his calling...but also his equipping. I...even I will be with your mouth and teach you what you are to say.  But sadly, that was not enough for Moses. And usually...that is not enough for us either. How often do we feel the prompting of the Holy Spirit to move beyond our comfortable existence in the desert and into the realm of the unknown...only to doubt whether or not it truly was the Lord. And even after He confirms it to us through His Word, His Spirit, and His body...we still refuse to budge.

Moses went beyond doubting just his abilities...he doubted GOD's ability. Moses gave permission for God to use anyone else...but him. There are many situations in life that will trump our experience...overshadow our gifts and talents...and swallow up any confidence we had stored up. Yet, God calls us to go THERE...to that place of uncertainty...where we cannot draw anything up of our own...so that we can free fall completely onto HIS abilities. Those situations that we look upon and say...I could never _____ are the very ones that bring us face to face with Him. We stay far too long in the place in which (we think) we thrive...what comes "naturally". But who is it that gave us those abilities in the first place? We will not be called to lead a nation out of bondage...or to work wonders before the eyes of a mighty Pharaoh...or to throw back giant walls of water...but we are called to live out our lives with an incredible faith. Capable of doing all of the above...and more. Day in and day out we should be able to look and see the mighty ability of God living His power through our lives.

Is there not your brother?
I do not want that to be said of me. That I passed on an opportunity for God to use me...simply because I lacked faith in His ability to carry it out in my life. Because I looked upon what He called me to do and asked Him to find someone else. Because I stayed within my own deficiencies rather than relying on HIS sufficiency. Because I said, I could never....

Be ready to do whatever it is that God has called you to do. He has thoroughly equipped you...you are lacking nothing. He has given you everything you need for life and godliness...through the knowledge of Him who called you. Admire those who walk by faith beside you...no matter how differently their lives may look. Remember that it is HE who does the calling...in each of our lives. And never, ever say....I could never...
In November I started going out to the abortion mill on a different day. I had been going on Tuesdays for the past year...and we had developed a great team of ministry. But there were several days that only had one family ministering and my heart went out to them...knowing how hard it is to be out there alone. So I prayed about it...and made the switch.
It took some adjusting...of our schedule...our time...and just learning the different personalities that are out there. But God has blessed us on Mondays and now we have several others out there joining us on the sidewalks. We also have seen incredible fruit and had many significant interactions. This year alone..since January...the ministry of Cities 4 Life has seen over 100 women chose life for their babies. These are women that were heading into the abortion clinic. Decision set. Mind made up. And God intervened and allowed them the opportunity to chose life. Praise the LORD!! We are so blessed to be a small part of this ministry...and that God allows us to watch His faithfulness and mercy unfold right before our very eyes.

But there are some days that are hard. Very hard. Last Monday was one of those days. Not long after we had arrived and had gotten settled we saw a woman start walking towards us. She was talking to someone on the phone and we heard her say, "Hold on a minute, I need to talk to these ladies before I go make the worst decision of my life." She was clearly struggling and had tears coming down her cheeks.   One of the other counselors, Vicki, started speaking with her and eventually this young mother agreed to have a free ultrasound.

We are very blessed to have a mobile ultrasound unit (a retrofitted RV) that comes and parks on the sidewalk with us. So Vicki and "S" walked over to the unit and those of us on the sidewalk began to pray fervently for her heart to be softened. Not long after, a man drove into the parking lot and began looking around a bit frantically. He asked if he could use one of our cell phones and we asked if he would be interested in taking our literature. He would not. He then asked if we had seen someone and described her for us. We knew he was looking for "S"...and she was on the ultra sound unit. We also knew that there was a high chance that he would be encouraging her to abort...not save her baby. We tried to buy her a few more minutes alone on the unit...but eventually he walked right on..and several minutes later walked off with "S". They began a loud argument that ended with some pushing and shoving. Crying "S" tried to talk with us and we tried to our best to intervene.

The situation only escalated from there...and eventually the police were called. We were worried for "S" and her safety...and we also were concerned that she was being forced to have an abortion.
Once the police arrived they pulled "S" into a safe room and privately asked her if she felt threatened or coerced. Sadly, she negated any concerns and told the police that she was willfully choosing abortion...that it was what was best for her.

In the midst of all this craziness...I felt a tap on my shoulder. To say I was emotionally charged at this moment would be a slight understatement! I was wrapped up in the moment...speaking to "S"...the police...other counselors...getting counsel over the phone from the ministry heads...etc. I was definitely consumed with what was going on around me. But then...the tap. The little interruption.

It was my sweet friend, Jill, letting me know that something was about to transpire. Something that I would definitely want to be a part of! As all of the drama was unfolding, Jill had been engaging the younger two Jimenez kids with her art on the sidewalk. (Jill is an incredible artist!) She had been illustrating the story of Jesus and had culminated with His death and resurrection. Apparently, this had so moved Jackson to the point that he was asking about salvation. She explained what he needed to do...and at that point felt it was time to get Mom! So...on the sidewalk of an abortion mill...with darkness encroaching all around us...my son felt the moving of the Holy Spirit and responded to His call. He asked Jesus to wash his heart and make it clean. With two sweet little tears trailing down his chubby cheeks, he asked if Jesus would forgive him and give him a new heart. It was an incredible moment. A moment that once again reinforced my understanding that it is GOD who wills and moves as He chooses.

I don't want to miss out on these opportunities in my children's lives...simply because I am in the middle of living life. I do not want to be so wrapped up in the moment or the situation that I lose sight of what God is doing in their hearts.

Another of these opportunities recently happened with Amy.

For the past year or so, Amy has been adamant that she has moved beyond "girly" things. She passed her Barbies and dolls onto her younger sister and has been increasingly more vocal about the things the she does not like.

I don't mind either way. She has her preferences and I expect her to have opinions of her own. (Personally I have never been much of a "girly-girly" so I thought she was taking after me!)

But what I did not find acceptable was her comments to her friend this past weekend. She said several things about "girly" things...and those that still played with them...that sounded a bit mean. Almost as if she was superior because of her lack of interest in them.

I let several days go by and prayed about the conversation that was coming up. Usually...I do not approach these situations with the most insight. What I see...or what I observe...tends to be surface level...which does not go beyond behavior. But for some reason, the Lord prompted me to get to the bottom of the "girly" issue.

So I asked Amy...what is the problem with "girly" things? What exactly is "girly"? Why are you so opposed to things that are "girly"? And then we talked. Amy shared her heart. Underneath all of the pretense was a desire to be different. To be special. Unique. Amy had tried to transform her natural inclinations to place her outside of the realm of what was considered "normal". Many tears were shed as Amy tried to verbalize what had been changing her heart. And what an incredible conversation opened up through that transparency. We talked about the danger of conforming. The identity we have in Christ. The value she has in her place in our family. The beauty of her personality and the transformation of salvation.

To be honest...I walked out of her room with an incredible sense of awe in my God. That He would open up this little point in time and give me an opportunity to share with my daughter the truths that I pray will live with her forever. That at nine years of age...we touched on a subject that many of us struggle with all of our lives. That He would equip Amy with the ability to communicate and understand how much this was changing who she is. Who He created her to be.

I am sure that as time goes by this will be a conversation that is revisited. That we will go over the truths that we learned that afternoon. But I pray that as life continues to speed up...that God will stop me and give me a glimpse of what He is transpiring in their hearts. In the midst of life...

We have heard this song for the last several weeks. It seems to be the theme song as of late...Hailey sings it at the top of her lungs while she's running around playing...Jackson sings it while trying to get Hailey's attention....Amy sings it while actually building a snowman...and Tyler singing it to make fun of Amy...and I just seem to have it ALWAYS stuck in my head!!!

But we HAVE had plenty of snow lately...so this warrants the song being sung at full capacity. We had a little bit of prelude in January to the deluge we had in February. And I am hoping that will be the end of the snow for the season!!!

With the first snowfall, the kids were disappointed that it didn't stick or stay for very long. But several weeks later we had almost a foot of snow...that stayed for about three days. Thankfully, we were snuggled up in our house with plenty of hot cocoa...games to be played...movies to watch...and family time to stock up on!!

Jason bundled up the kids an traipsed around looking for the best sledding spot. Technically it wasn't really sledding as we don't actually own a sled...but boogie boards worked well too! Thankfully, Jason's tolerance for falling temperatures are higher than mine...so the kids had a super fun time playing with Daddy all afternoon!

All Hailey wanted to do was eat...and eat...and eat. Almost every picture we took of Hailey had her trying to catch the snow on her tongue!
That night, we scooped up a bowl of fresh snow, poured in some sugar and milk...and voila...we had fresh ice "snow"cream!!! Delish!

In the midst of the blustery weather. Jason hosted the first Marketplace Forum at the end of January. re|shift ministries and several others partnered together to bring together Christian business men and women from all around Charlotte. The vision behind Marketplace is to embolden and equip Christians in order that they might share their faith more openly in the workplace.
This Forum had several prominent business men on the panel discussing the different obstacles they have faced and how to overcome them. It was a great turnout for the first one...and those that were there left encouraged...and emboldened to share their faith more openly!

Jason has been praying about the next step for re|shift and was approached about the opportunity to do radio. There is much to be learned...and what better place then the NRB? The National Religious Broadcasters Convention! Graciously someone took care of our tickets, our hotel, and even our gas...so how could we say no!
It was an incredible time of absorbing as much information as we possibly could. God opened our eyes to show much and we were so blessed to have several encounters with key people that is helping us with some decisions that are up ahead.
The entire weekend was such a blessing! The hotel was absolutely GORGEOUS and we reveled in the time we were able to spend together.

So WHERE WERE THE KIDS???

The kids were busy making their own fun with all of their friends! Each of them were able to spend the weekend with their best buds...getting spoiled rotten! :-) It is such a blessing to have such wonderful friends that love on our kids and make such special memories with them.
It was a weekend that we will not soon forget...and neither will the kids!!

Life to you has always been full of song and laughter...
looking forward with a magic view that hides all the sorrows and terrors...
and revels in all the bright hues of joys and blessings...

Your heart beats with eagerness to begin the conquests that will certainly be yours...
you do not see failures or defeats or disappointments...
every thorn is hidden and every rose is revealed.

So contagious is your joy and optimism that your presence cheers the dullest household
and sets it's pulse beating with hope and laughter.
Older heads, who know that life is not all joy and sunshine,
come under the spell of your charms and cannot but smile with you.
With songs of hope and joy upon your lips, you go forth to meet life boldly and unafraid.

Laugh and play now, for this is your day.
Dream your bright and happy dreams...and aspire to your lofty heights.
Girlhood is the time of making ready...maturity and independence come later.

So laugh and play and rejoice in your youth...

 Be pure.
Be true.
Be sincere.
Be earnest.

My sweet Amy...we delight in the beautiful young woman you are growing into.
We are catching glimpses of the gifts God has given you and marvel as you start to use them to serve others.
You are a blessing to those who know you and a treasure to your family.
As you enter into this next year...rejoice in this time that God has given you.
Enjoy the adventures...explore your horizons...but continue to guard your heart.
Jesus is your first love...and we pray...will be always.
You are His passionate defender and follower.
You are quick and zealous to affirm His truth.
Your transparency and honesty is beautiful to us, as your parents...and we pray that as you grow in Him...you will continue to shine brightly as His child.

We love you, precious daughter!!!
Happy Ninth Birthday!!!!
A few weeks back the sun decided to warm up the state of North Carolina...a rare occurrence of late!
We decided to take advantage of the change of temps and headed out to Reedy Creek Park.

Most of the day was spent creating...imagining...building forts...laughing...and playing hard!!

Just as quickly the temps dropped below freezing...and we desert rats were forced to find some fun INSIDE!!!
So we headed out to Discovery Place Kids for one last day of play before our membership ran out.
The kids had a blast...especially because Daddy came with and played right alongside with them!

After being cooped up inside again for several weeks...this last week had one or two days of warmer temps.
The kids wanted to take advantage of every minute of sunshine so we headed to the park.

Whenever Daddy comes to the park with us...the playground takes on a whole new meaning.
It either becomes a pirate ship...a space ship...or anything else that happens upon his imagination.

We have had several days of non-stop rain...so the creek was full to the brim and the woods were begging to be explored. The older two spent the entire time traipsing through and making up all sorts of imaginary games.  Daddy was close by to help the little ones "cross-the-river"...although there were a couple of little feet that landed in the mud! :)

Inside or out...playtime is always more fun when Daddy is with us!!!

But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.
I Peter 4:7

Here we are at the beginning of a new year.

A fresh start. A slate unmarked. A full 365-days that are untouched.
But we cannot escape the reality that follows us from the previous years combined.
We live amongst a generation that claims to know God but neglects sound teaching and accumulates for themselves teachers to suit their own passions.
We are watching as some depart from the faith by
devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons.
For many walk as enemies of the cross of Christ.
Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame,
with minds set on earthly things.
We are surrounded by lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.
Those that have an appearance of godliness, but deny its power.
And it seems apparent that our salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.

When we turn on the news...when we converse with a friend...when we read a blog or listen to a podcast...
all around us it seems the night is drawing closer to its end.
The god of this age is creeping into many households...
blinding those to salvation and the glory of God.

What do we do with this? Is it enough to simply be watchful?
To take note of the changing tides of spiritual allegiance?
How do we combat this sweeping sense of darkness...the oppressing blanket of deceit?

Peter answers by telling us to be serious and watchful...in our prayers.
Prayer is one of the most powerful weapons given to Christians...yet left woefully untouched.
It is oft traded in for the loudness of worship music...or the noise of a downloaded sermon.
It is cast aside for the latest Christian book.
Forgotten because we are pursuing a form of godliness that lacks significant power.

We live in a complex world. We are up against a deceiver that masquerades as an angel of light.
But, Christian, we have access to the holy, almighty God of the Universe.
Communion is accessible to us...we are able to approach the throne of grace.
Peter warns us that we are to filter all that we see going on around us through prayer.
We must become serious...clear-minded...sober...vigilant.
Our enemy is prowling around...waiting for our slumber...our lazy acquiesce to idleness.

As hard as it seems...we are to shine even brighter as the days get darker.
Our love is to be even more fervent...our service all the more genuine...our gifts constantly in use...rather than following the example of the world around us.
How can we live these counter-cultural lives without the intense power of prayer fueling us?

2014
May it be the year of watchful prayers.
May the bride of Christ be unceasing in her intercession...bold in her proclamation of truth...unwavering in her theology...and boundless in her love.

If you were to visit my house this afternoon...
it would be hard to say whether Christmas visited us this year or not.
I tend to be over-zealous about putting things "back-to-normal"...
so the day after Christmas the lights were unplugged, the boxes packed up, and the attic was full!
But rewind a few days...

Christmas Eve this year found us up early with the oven
piping out yummy smells of ooey-gooey cinnamon rolls!
Jason and the boys had their list...and the girls and I had ours...
we were off for our annual cinnamon roll drop off!
With two different sleighs running in two different directions...
we both made it home before lunch with plenty of time to get ready for our evening festivities!

This year we teamed up with our friends, the Howards,
to put on a Christmas Eve show for the lil ones at our church.
Each year we serve in the nursery for one of the services...but this year we decided to do a little bit more.
With help from all of our kiddos, we had a little bit of singing, acting, reading, dancing...and lots of fun!!
While we love to be in the service...preparing our hearts for Christmas...this year our children took away so much more in their understanding of serving and it truly made the evening so very special!!

The next morning, Jason was up early with anticipation!
He sat around "waiting" for the kids to come barreling down the stairs!
He didn't have to wait too long...

There were squeals of delight and surprise from all around...

And after a few short moments of gift-wrap flying...the kids were hard at work playing with their loot!

It was a wonderful Christmas...celebrating the birth of our Savior...enjoying the blessing of family...reveling in the gracious provision of our Lord.
Merry late Christmas from our family to yours!!

At the start
He was there
He was there
In the end
He'll be there
He'll be there
And after all
Our hands have wrought
He forgives

Oh, the glory of it all
Is He came here
For the rescue of us all
That we may live
For the glory of it all
Oh, the glory of it all

All is lost
Find Him there
Find Him there
After night
Dawn is there
Dawn is there
And after all
Falls apart
He repairs
He repairs

Oh, He is here
With redemption from the fall
That we may live
For the glory of it all
Oh, the glory of it all

After night
Comes a light
Dawn is here
Dawn is here
It's a new day, a new day
Oh, everything will change
Things will never be the same
We will never be the same

Oh, everything will change
Things will never be the same
We will never be same

-lyrics by David Crowder-

So much of life passes us by with a blink and a nod. Very little acknowledgment beyond the catalog of events we try to maintain. We have so much going on...so many different plates spinning up in the air...different relationships...different activities...different encounters. We are speeding along this fast-track of life...trying to keep our heads above the water and maintain some sort of semblance of peace. But what do we treasure up in our heart? What do we ponder? What do we take out...when all is still and quiet...and reflect upon? What do we examine and recount to learn and grow from?

But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.
Luke 2:19

Here is Mary. Just a simple young girl who had lived most of her days in humble deference to what society had dictated. Suddenly, that quiet, peaceful existence is replaced by.the divine intervention of  heralding angels..an immaculate conception...a surprised wedding...an unexpected trip...a subdued delivery...the arrival of breathless and excited shepherds...and a completely different purpose in life than what she had ever dreamed for herself.
Holding onto that sweet little baby...questioning all that she was...wondering if she would ever be "good enough"...she treasured up all the things that had happened thus far. And she pondered them. They were weighty...not just simple thoughts. The God of the universe...born to set her people free...lying in her arms.
What would this mean for her as a mother...what immense joys were up ahead? What excruciating trials would she endure? What role did she play in the grand scheme of this drama?
Mary did not know all that was in store for her. Yet, as Simeon explained...there would be pain...a sword would pierce through Mary's heart...she was still prepared to obey God. Without full knowledge or understanding. Yet she would obey Him...all the while, quietly reflecting and pondering...growing in understanding as God permitted.
Our lives will not have the same divine disruption. We are not called to the same joys and burdens that Mary endured. But in each of our lives God has disturbed our simple...quiet existence. He has intervened into the monotony of our world and drawn us into the divine. If we look back over the landscape of our days...we too will find those little nuggets of treasures. Times that God showed us a glimpse of His plan. A peek at what He has set apart for us, specifically, to fulfill. An awareness of His presence. A display of His grace. And perhaps even a piercing of our hearts...followed by the comfort of His hand.
Mary was surrounded by different voices...angels...shepherds...Joseph...Elizabeth...Anna...Simeon...but she did not allow those to become confused and then discarded. She stopped...and pondered. Treasured. Mulled them over. Meditated on each of them. Making a memory in her heart that she could return to. Empowering her to obey even through the toughest of circumstances.
What is it that we will treasure up in our hearts? Being specific to take note of the presence of God in our lives...how will we recollect upon them? We...like Mary...cannot see what lies ahead. But we do have the treasures that would embolden us to walk confidently in the knowledge of His faithfulness.
Treasure all these things up in your heart.

Busy celebrating a birthday!!!
Tyler requested his traditional Monkey Bread for breakfast...and I was more than happy to oblige.
That morning, several friends showed up for a time of celebrating.
The boys spent almost the ENTIRE time outside playing football...they only came in for the occasional hot cocoa breaks...and of course, food!

It was a super fun day with special friends!
Sadly, it was in the middle of our horrible bout with the flu.
Jackson spent that entire day in bed - missing out on all the fun activities...
and then...we passed it on...till everyone in the family had their turn.

Needless to say, we spent A LOT of time in the house.
Thankfully, Daddy played lots of games...told lots of stories...made lots of soup...and bought lots of vitamins
helping us all to get better!
Thanksgiving still had some of us feeling yucky...but not Amy.
She was Miss Baker for the day...she made pumpkin pie, pecan pie, smashed potatoes, and homemade rolls.
And she did a FABULOUS job!!!
It won't be too much longer and she'll have the entire meal steaming and ready for us!

After two full weeks of being cooped up inside the house,
the kids were more than ready to head for a holiday homeschool party!
They played games...made Christmas ornaments...and created a graham-cracker-Nativity scene.

Having spent two weeks in the house also put me scouring Pinterest for ideas we could create at home!
I'm not normally too enthusiastic to pull out the scissors and glue...but these fun crafts were actually a blast.
Amy has since informed me that there are actually families that craft ALL year long...not just on Christmas!
We are obviously NOT that family!
