The Jimenez Family

About thirteen years ago...I sat on a rock in Vacs, Hungary with my good friend Nicki.
We had pen and paper in hand...and one objective - the list.
It had been talked about before...verbalized in the darkened setting of our dorm room.
But sitting on that rock...we made our commitment to settle for nothing less than what was on our list.
The list of what we were looking for in our future husband.
Some were silly...some were wishful thinking...but most were essentials.
Uncompromising standards.

Little did I know that eight months later...I would meet him....the man that met my list.
Some of the silly ones, some of the wishful thinking ones, but ALL of the essentials!!!

About eighteen months later...we were here...in Hawaii...on our honeymoon! :-)
(Burnt to a crisp!)

Celebrating eleven years of marriage to my best friend!!!
Loving you even more today than all those years ago.
Praising God for accomplishing more than I could ever ask or imagine in a partner.
And thanking Him for meeting every single qualification on that list!
Happy Anniversary!

Busyness is the season of life we are in.
There is always somewhere to be. People to connect with. Children to ferry here or there.
But when it becomes wearisome to "do" all those things...a respite is in order.
Last weekend, centered completely around our family. Just the six of us.
And it was WONDERFUL!!!

Friday was a beautiful day to start our season passes at Carowinds.
Given as a birthday present to all our family from my parents...it was a perfect time to just get away and have some fun!

With so many different rides to go on...I am thankful that we have all season to try them out and choose favorites!!

Hailey is just a smidge to little for most of the rides there. But that's okay...
we spent our time cuddling and charming those around us!

Saturday marked the beginning of the end to Tyler's football season.

He had a GREAT team this year...maybe not winning that many games...but learning how to function as a team and growing together!

He was very blessed to have Coach Arrington this season.
Coach spent so much time developing each of their different abilities...but mostly, teaching them truth from God's Word!

This little one quickly learned that the stroller is NOT the place to be during games.
Finding her independence this season has been quite the adventure!

Sunday brought us an opportunity for us to dedicate our sweet Hailey girl.
Standing in front of our church family...thanking them for all of their love, encouragement, and support...and also affirming our desire to raise her in the fear and instruction of the Lord...was a special blessing!

Sunday being Mother's Day...I was treated like royalty! :-)
Jackson told me several HUNDRED times (Sunday and since then)
Happy Mother's Day, Mommy!
And of course, he told everyone that passed him in the hall at church or in the parking lot...man, woman, child, adult...there was much confusion for some people! :-)

Once we were home, the kids had me sit down while they read to me from Proverbs 31.
Then I was treated to a movie they had made (with the help of Daddy)...complete with picture slideshow and video clips. It was the sweetest...most memorable Mother's Day gift ever.
A precious way to wrap up our family filled weekend!

There was nothing in life to truly prepare me for the journey of motherhood.
No matter how many times I watched my younger brother...how many babysitting jobs I had accomplished...or Red-cross and CPR courses I completed...nothing compared to those first tentative steps of parenthood.

Your fragile threads of life hinging on my ability to nourish, protect, shelter, love and cherish.
Responsibility in it's greatest most selfless form took on new meaning.
The simplest of tasks seemed monumental.
Even picking out the right laundry detergent seemed daunting.
I soon got lost in the flurry of what I deemed "good parenting".
Based on everything that I could see on the outside.
Everything I thought I could "control".
Everything on me.

But beyond the most basic of your needs there emerged  the more important,
larger vacuum of life waiting to be filled.
One that I couldn't fill with hugs or kisses...or words of encouragement.
One that couldn't be controlled with discipline.
One that had nothing to do with me.
More than good behavior, a great education, or appeasing appearances...
there is an even greater task at hand.
For within each of you, my precious children, there is an intrinsic desire to be at one with your Maker.
To find lasting purpose and meaning in this shallow, shadow of a world.
Securing your eternal destiny and future hope.

It is this need that redefined my role as "mother".
Although your choice is yours alone...
the task of shepherding and nurturing that choice became my greatest goal.
Demanding of me to truly "live" Christ out even in my darkest hours.
Your little eyes and ears watching and waiting...
to see how this "Christian" woman would handle real life.
In moments of frustration, moments of doubt, moments of fear,
and moments of anxiety...how did I respond?
Did I rightly divide the Word of Truth?
Did I set apart Christ as Lord in my heart...giving an answer for the reason for the hope that I have?
Did I display the joy that is found in walking with my Savior?

Well, sweet ones, the journey is far from over.
I am a work of God's faithfulness in progress.
There have been many failures and opportunities to offer your sweet forgiveness.
But the joy of being your mom has brought me so much deeper into the heart of my Savior.
The responsibility and honor of having four treasures...has increased my understanding of grace.

And there is no greater thing than to see my children walk in TRUTH.
To watch the seedlings of His Word spring forth and produce fruit in your life is His blessing in action.
To know that His Spirit is in you - guiding you, teaching you, comforting you, leading you...is peace in it's sweetest form.
I am so blessed and humbled and honored to be your mom! :-)

So much of life is measured out in accomplishments, successes, and achievements.
All signifying growth.
All signifying milestones.

But you have always had a different standard for your life...
From early on, you have strived to know more of your Savior and study His Word...

to minister to those in need all around you...
offering words of comfort, grace, hope and truth.

Pouring out your life in obedience as a sacrifice...
willing to do whatever He asks of you...

and being my greatest hero, example, role-model and friend.
You have truly "accomplished" much in thirty-three short years of life.

The beautiful art of dying to self and live for Christ!

I love you, Jason!

Happy Birthday!

If all goes according to plan...
Funny phrase.
Never seems to apply to me and my brilliant ideas.
I've had many of them...most (if not all) have started off great...

and then ended in total flops...
leaving me scrambling to find a way to redeem myself!

Last week was no different.
We set out on a nice long walk.
The weather was beautiful.
Not a cloud in the sky.

Along the way, we decided to stop off at the park.
The park wasn't that busy and the kids had fun playing with each other.
Then...it started to get dark.
Moms started gathering their little chicks and herding them to their mini-vans.
We heard thunder.
And we were about TWO MILES from our van!!!

And then...the rain came...

the two that could run...booked off
leaving me huffing and puffing with the double stroller - trying to catch up!
Needless to say, my poor little kids were DRENCHED by the time we got to the van.
I felt so bad looking at my four sweet soggy faces...and so...I made a decision...

...it was time for some KRISPY KREME...to redeem myself!

Rain? What rain?
Still standing as the "best mom in the whole world" (as quoted with full doughnut mouths!)
So no...it did not go according to plan...but revised plans are sometimes a lot more YUMMY!!!
