Survivor 2018
Amy joined her class of eighth graders at our church for a weekend away.

The student ministry team recognizes that eighth grade has a unique shift. Finishing middle school and anticipating the leap up to high school. There are social demands - peer pressure - culture expectations...it can be hard to navigate.

So they gather up the eighth graders and take them away from it all.

And teach them how to SURVIVE!
It is a weekend filled with Survivor like games that show the need for true community and trusting those around you.

Amy was on the Yanacaq team...

and was VERY competitive (which her team leader LOVED!)

The last night, the parents are invited up to share in the evening...

AND the games!

We also sat in on the teaching...which is focused on pursuing purity.

At the end of the evening, Jason and I spoke blessing over Amy and prayed for her.
Committing her to the Lord and asking Him to equip her and empower her to live our her faith.
It was an incredible weekend for Amy...and for us.

Jackon and Hailey were asked to be special greeters for a very important guest....Bob Goff!!!
Before he came to the church, the kids made special cards to welcome him...as well as decorations all over the green room.
Hailey and Jackson were super excited to be a part of this welcome team.
They received his book,  Love Does for Kids, and had read ALL of his stories.
It almost felt like they already knew him...so they were thrilled to be able to actually meet him!

Hailey's card for Bob...he LOVES balloons!!!

The kids each wore a different color and waited for him to come up the stairwell...

and there he was!!

He was so kind and loving with each of the kids.

Asking them their names. Their grades. Their favorite story in the book. So personal!

The kids then laid hands on him and prayed over him before he spoke.

He told the kids the story about why he poses this way in each picture.
Sweet Maria, his wife, does not travel with him but she gets to see all of his pictures on social media.
As a way to honor his wife and live above reproach - whenever Bob takes a picture with anyone he throws his arms out in the air!

In this picture, the kids were saying "hi" to Sweet Maria!!

Shannon and I herded the special greeters onto the stage to be a part of a fun balloon popping challenge.

It was such a fun night...but also very convicting with the challenges Bob shared.
His passion for people is contagious. His stories are hilarious while poignant.
He is intentional and present...and told us that every single time his phone rings
(outside of when he is speaking) he answers it.
It was refreshing to hear his heart for truly living out his faith.

Love is never stationary.
In the end, love doesn’t just keep thinking about it or keep planning for it.
Simply put: love does.
Bob Goff

My grandmother went home to heaven several nights ago.

Outside of my parents, she is the one person that has influenced my life the most. She allowed a crazy, hurting, silly, accident prone teenager to live with her and turn her world upside down. Strongly independent and living on her own for quite some time...it was definitely an adjustment for her quiet life.

And yet, each day she would put down her paintbrush and invite me to pull up a stool so that she could listen to my drama of teenage angst.

She taught me how to pray...truly pray over those you love. She showed me what gracious independence looks like. She lived out what fulfillment in Christ looks like. She showed me that it is never too late in life to pursue your God given gifts.

She was the first of my family to meet Jason and was one of his biggest fans.

She loved each of my kids and celebrated their uniqueness.

She told me story after story of my family’s history. She spoke words of wisdom over me and challenged me.

And more than anything else...she made sure that I knew that I was loved and treasured.

I am humbled to be a part of her legacy and pray that I can live up to that honor.

Fried okra...red chili...bubblegum ice cream...Pistol Pete pizza...soupy spaghetti...burnt saltine crackers...Arizona Wildcats...tinsel on Christmas trees...oil paints...nickels to buy pickles...shopping for deals...detailed prayer lists in three ring binders will always remind me of this incredible woman that helped shape me into who I am today.
I love you Grandma, bunches and bunches and loads and loads and groups and groups!!

We celebrated Grandma doing what she loved most - spending time together as a family!!

My dad gave a brief history of my Grandmother's life...{which is incredibly important because she had spent YEARS gathering and compiling all the data she could on the Star/Eubanks/Brunenkant families}

Aunt Judy shared one of Grandma's poems...she was incredibly talented...not just with her art but also with words!

Uncle Kurt and several others shared some "remember when..." stories.

After that it was time to soak up all the family time we could...

enjoying the beautiful legacy that Grandma B has left behind!
