Last Summer Shindig...

Each year we close out the summer with our trip to Summit in Colorado.
We look forward to it all year long...and when it finally comes we are READY!!

It takes a couple of days for us to acclimate to the change in altitude.

But once we do...we are out the door to our favorite hiking spots.
Helen Hunt Falls is a quick and easy hike.

I had to bribe these two with the promise of donuts!!

It was a beautiful day for a beautiful hike!

Jason spends most of his time with the students...answering questions...and just being available for whatever might come up.

Thankfully we can sneak away for a quick walk into Manitou or a date lunch!

The kids love hanging out in Downtown Manitou...eating some yummy pizza...custard...or hitting up the shops!

Amy has wanted to get a henna each time we've gone to Manitou.
This was the year!!!
Neely with a bumblebee and Amy with a rose.

And of course we had to celebrate with custard!!

A trip to Colorado would not be complete without a trip to see Whit at Odyessy!

Before we went out to CO we were watching
Diners, Drive-In and Dives that featured a restaurant in the Springs.
The Skirted Heifer
After watching the show, we added that to the "Things to Do while in CO" list!

It was WELL worth the wait!
Super yummy hamburgers!!

Another day - another hike.
Red Mountain is literally out the backdoor of Summit.

It's not an easy hike - but the views are stunning!

Uncle Mike & Hailey.
The kids absolutely LOVE Mike Adams.
They listen to every single one of his talks (even though they know all of his jokes by heart)
and they love to share meals with him just to hear his stories.

When we saw this sign in downtown Manitou...we knew exactly who it was made for!
#ihatemikeadams ;-)

Amy and I headed out one afternoon to hike what we thought was the Barr Camp trail...

but a wrong turn here and there...
and a very sketchy dirt road with some angry dogs at the end turned us around.

We ended up here and that was just fine!
The storm clouds were rolling in and we tried hard to get several miles in before they came!

This summer I convinced all four kiddos to do the Incline with me.
2,744 steps straight up into the sky.

This was our little friend that kept up with us.
He seemed to know where the treats could be found!

Almost there.

Made it to the top!

It is not an easy climb...but these four were champs.
The trail down is about four miles of switchbacks.

It goes a little bit quicker when you sing Disney songs at the top of your lungs!!

Stunning views all the way down!

There is ALWAYS something to do at Summit.
Most mornings the big kids head to the hotel to listen to the sessions while the younger two roam around the hotel.
The summer staff was so very gracious to Jackson and Hailey and came up with different ways to entertain them during the sessions.
Anna and Jed made slime with them...

the dining room crew had them make the menu for the day...

chess...and foosball...every single day!

Big John letting them help out with sound.

All four of my kiddos have been invested into this session...by the staff and the faculty and the students.
It was hard to say goodbye when the time came.

I am so thankful for this place...for the commitment to truth...
and the part it plays into shaping the next generation!
Including my kids.
Farewell until next summer, Summit!!
