I am looking outside my window at the dark clouds and rain soaked yard...and dreaming of the beach!!!
Hilton Head is calling my name!
We had such a good time last week...spending hours and hours just sitting on the beach. At times we'd talk and enjoy uninterrupted conversation. Other times...we'd just sit...doing absolutely nothing...and loving it! We spent a lot of time reading our books or our Bibles and just listening to the crashing of the waves on the shore. It was quite odd to walk out to the beach with just towel and chair in hand...no shovels, pails, frisbees, etc. We didn't have to dive into the water as soon as we got there...or look for the perfect spot to begin digging. We were almost lost in knowing what to do with all our freedom! But we managed just fine! :-)One morning we got up (whenever we wanted too!!!!) and went to Flamingo's for breakfast. It is a family owned doughnut shop that makes fresh doughnuts. Fresh...as in - they don't even fry the doughnut until you order it! Then...you decide whatever glaze you want on it and whatever topping!!! We had a coupon for buy three get one free...I didn't know what we would do with four doughnuts...but of course I wanted to use the coupon. Well...I had both of my two doughnuts inhaled before Jay could even lay claim to them! They were AMAZING!!!!!!
One of the nights we were there we went up to Harbour Town. It is a quaint little place with shops, restaurants and a lighthouse at the end. All over the little town they have red rocking chairs...just placed here and there. Jason and I sat in those chairs and just watched all the people passing by. With no place to be or rush...it was so nice to just sit and sit and sit!
The next night we ate dinner and then bought some ice cream and headed out to the beach. Our room was about a two-minute walk to the beach. And it was absolutely empty! There was NO ONE on the beach but us. We got there in time to watch several dolphins jumping around and coming pretty close to shore. (Side note: I thought it was cute...but my shark-paranoid husband informed me that dolphins only come to shore because they hear people and they are afraid of sharks. So they are drawn to the safety of people. Hm, yeah...so I kind of doubt this is true...but I humored him and stayed out of the water!!!)
After the dolphins left (presumably because the sharks left?) we watched the sunset over the ocean. It was breath taking. Jason and I just stood....completely in awe of God's creative handiwork.
The trip was over way too fast...and reality was beckoning us back to Charlotte. But the trip was definitely the best...topping even our honeymoon!!! Now we're looking forward to the next one...which will be...who knows when! :-)
I am not good at surprises. I usually get too excited and spill the beans within minutes of planning the surprise. I just am too hyped up! But this time...I pulled it off. Never thought I would. Those that knew about it doubted my ability to keep my excitement to myself. And the one who was being surprised pestered me day in and day out trying to figure it out. But I did it!!!
For Jason's graduation, birthday and our anniversary I planned a trip for just the two of us to go down to Hilton Head and spend three days...alone! My parents graciously joined in on the surprise and agreed to fly out and watch the kids while we were gone. The plan was in the works for THREE months!!! That was a long three months of silence!!!
But Saturday night...unbeknownst to Jason...I drove to the airport to pick up my parents. I had planned on attending one the highschooler's concerts...and thus I had the perfect alibi!
After picking up my parents, I swung by Stonecrest and had my dad go in and pick up Matthew - who knew NOTHING about the surprise. He was shocked!!!
We then headed home to surprise Jay!!! He was sitting in his office studying for Sunday. I walked in...alone and put something on his desk. He looked up and saw his special hot sauce that you can only buy in Tucson. He looked at me funny...and tried to figure out if it had come in the mail or some thing. I just grinned and shook my head. It still wasn't clicking! Finally I just told him that my parents had brought it and that they were outside in the car. He didn't believe me at first...but then they walked through the door. He was shocked! And then...I told him WHY they were here! Took awhile for it all to sink in...and then excitement was evident in his face!!!
So...we spent the weekend with my parents and then headed off to the beach. The kids had a BLAST with Grammie and Poppie...probably didn't even realize that we had left!
Played lots of Farkle! (Yes, that is the name of the game!)

Everyone wanted to sit next to Poppie!!!
This was my dad's first time seeing Jackson. They instantly bonded...and my dad rarely put Jackson down. He was a little spoiled by week's end!
We celebrated Grammie's birthday!
Played lots of Farkle! (Yes, that is the name of the game!)
Once upon a time there was...
That turned into this...
Which of course led to this...
And quickly became this...
And now they are happily this...
All because nine years ago they did this...
We went strawberry picking last week...and hit the jackpot! It was a gorgeous Carolina day - and the strawberries were beautiful ripe and juicy! We had never been strawberry picking before...(only chile picking...we are from Arizona!). The kids thought that strawberries originated in Harris Teeter so they were in for a surprise when we pulled up to the farm!
They ate them about as fast as they picked them...so I'm surprised so many made it into the tubs! But soon the tubs were full, we were hot and sweaty, and our allergies had reached the breaking point!!!
With such beautiful berries, I decided to make chocolate covered strawberries as appreciation gifts for the kids AWANA teachers.
I washed them all, sorted through all the yucky ones, and got them ready for dipping. But I had my back turned for too long apparently...because several of the strawberries looked like this one...
With or without chocolate...just too good to resist!!!
Today you are 31.
Not a big celebration.
No frills or parties.
Definitely sushi.
And probably a gift that involves books of some sort.
Today you are 31.
You are poised for whatever God will ask of you this day, this week, this year.
You are ready for the challenges ahead.
You are excited for God's call on your life
And you are sharpened by life's experience.
Today you are 31.
You are a husband, father, brother, son, teacher.
All roles that have blessed MANY in your life this past year.
God's truth has been spoken through your lips
And His love has been played out through your actions.
Today you are 31.
You are a college graduate.
A dreamer. An achiever. A believer.
A man that has sacrificed for those around him.
A man that recognizes the responsibility before him.
Today you are 31.
Jason
I am so proud of you.
So honored to be your wife.
And I am SO in love with you.
Happy Birthday!!!
