Savannah...
Three days.
To ourselves.
With nothing to do.
But relax...
And that is exactly what we did!
Jason and I usually hit up the beach when it's time to unwind...
but being this close to so many different historical cities...we decided to give Savannah a try.
We stayed in a beautiful bed and breakfast that sits in the heart of the historical district.
Our van stayed in the same place for three days...and we did a LOT of walking!
We went to the City Market...the river walk...Forsythe Park and every street in between...
completely captivated by the charming architecture and the whimsical trees.
We splurged once...eating right on the river front...
but the rest of our meals consisted of the best $2 slice pizza around!!!
We went to several old bookstores...many different coffee shops...one AMAZING ice cream shop...and an extravagant candy shop!

Jason loves fried chicken...I mean...he really LOVES fried chicken!
Sadly, his wife only makes it in the oven...being a little too timid to try and accomplish this feat on the stove.
So when we were in Savannah...surrounded by Paula Deen and companions...fried chicken was on our "to-eat" list!
We had heard about this amazing little place called Mrs Wilkes...a country style eatery.
It was quite expensive but we decided we'd skimp on some other meals to make it all balance out.
We spent the morning at Forsyth Park...just basking in the sunshine and soaking in the serenity.
As Jason was praying, he felt led to speak to the man sitting next to him.
Turned out to be a fellow believer...James.
Brother James had met with some very hard times...
difficult medical situations, loss of family and friends, and the recession.
He had actually spent the night on that very park bench and had the bug bites to prove it.
He told us that he thanked God every morning for waking him up...
for giving him another day...and asked that He would continue to keep him humble.
He quoted Scripture and joy oozed from his smile.
He showed us his favorite brick surrounding the fountain...Friend of God.
He said as long as that was true...nothing could shake him.
Jason was so moved by his story..and his humility that we offered to help him find a place to stay that night. After we had prayed and hugged and said our goodbyes...that fried chicken lost it's luster.
Spending that much on food when it could help a fellow brother seemed disgusting.
It was such a beautiful picture of Christ...
Jason's willingness...James' humility...God's conviction on our hearts.
And the encounter truly woke us up to what is MOST important...
and all that we had to be thankful for!!
It was a beautiful...relaxing...wonderful trip!
