The Jimenez Family

The long awaited sun made an appearance this weekend. With warmth on the forecast we decided to plan a picnic. We wanted to make sure we soaked up every bit of beautiful weather before it disappeared!

The word "picnic" translates into Bojangles chicken in our family! Jason reasoned that just sandwiches would loose the ambiance of the picnic! So with our chicken and biscuits in hand we headed to the sunny benches to eat our yummy lunch.

Jackson just scavenged from table to table...checking out what EVERYONE brought to the picnic. He wasn't too sure that chicken was the best there was!

Soon our friends arrived and made the picnic a super fun time!

Off to the playground and then onto the football fields!

Amy and Sophie stayed clear of the boys and had their own "games" they played! :-) Watch out for these two in years to come!!!

After a fun afternoon we headed home. We had barely walked in the door when Tyler burst into tears complaining of a headache and sore throat. So it was off to bed for him - and back to hibernation for us. At least we were able to enjoy the sun while it lasted!!!

One of Amy's birthday presents was a membership to Discovery Place and Discovery Place Kids. We decided to take a break from school for a day and headed out for our first official field trip. The location of the field trip was left as a surprise until we pulled into the parking lot. Even then, the kids weren't sure exactly where we were going. But once we walked into the door...the excitement kicked in!

There was so much to do that no one quite knew where to go first. In fact...there were three Jimenez children running in three separate directions!

First off, was the water table (and of course, this was revisited throughout the rest of the day!)

Then we headed to the farm. We collected eggs from the chickens, milked the cow, picked apples, and took a ride on a tractor.
Then onto the grocery store. There was a LOT to purchase here! We spent quite a long time gathering the necessary supplies! :-)
They got all they needed to head over to the diner and start making Mommy's lunch!

Jackson was anticipating a very yummy meal!
We headed over to the gymnastics/aerobics area next to burn off all our food!
I tried to get a shot of Jackson doing the aerobic video...but I couldn't get it! It was hilarious!!!
We took a trip underwater in a submarine!
Soon we heard the sirens and jumped in to lend a hand to the firefighters!
Then Dr Jackson decided it was his turn to GIVE the shots - instead of receiving the shots!
He's an expert now!
A very silly puppet show!

And story time!

So, our very first field trip was a blast! I'm not sure that we'll be able to follow it up with another exciting adventure but we still have Discovery Place to visit!

Six years ago today, I lay in a hospital bed praying that the epidural would miraculously take effect. Unfortunately, for reasons only known to God, the answer was "no" and the pain took over my entire body. Thus, I turned my mind to other things to try and block it out.
In and out of contractions, my thoughts centered around the arrival of our newest blessing.
A little girl.
Our daughter.
Amy.
Her name chosen to honor both of her grandmothers - maternal and paternal.
But also...her name chosen because of its meaning...beloved.

I had no way of knowing how perfect that name would fit this sweet girl or how perfectly SHE would fit into our lives.

Beloved...for her sweet spirit and infectious smile.

Beloved...for all her crazy ideas and silly stories.

Beloved...for her overflowing affection.

Beloved...for being mischievous, instigator, thinker, and nurturer.

Beloved...simply because she is Amy - our daughter.

Beloved...because she is His creation, chosen by Him, unashamedly called His own.

Our sweet beloved, Amy, we love you so much!
Happy Birthday!
Come for tea...come for cakes...
Come and help CELEBRATE!!!

This last weekend we had a tea cocoa-party for Amy's sixth birthday. She invited a small amount of friends (along with a doll of choice to accompany them) to come over for a short respite from their weary days of childhood! :-)

Before drinking their cocoa, Jason made the kids go on a scavenger hunt to find their cups! Then once found, they decorated their mugs to their liking...this was a very serious undertaking! :-)

Of course, every cocoa-party needs servers! Tyler and his friend, Steven, dressed up in their Sunday "duds" and prepared their finest manners to serve the ladies! Jelly sandwiches, crusted cheese toast, bagels with strawberry cream cheese, and several other choice tastes were on the menu.

There was a lot of giggling and silliness coming from the dining room. We tried to give the girls as much privacy as possible...only interrupting with the occasional "cocoa-spill-clean-up" crew. As it was, we did hear a smattering of conversations and they were so super sweet and girly!

After "tea", it was time for cakes!!! And of course, the birthday song!

Amy is commenting on...something?

When all the bellies were full, we played a rousing game of charades (hilarious with five and six year olds).

Then on to PRESENTS!

Amy with some serious on-lookers!

All the pretty little ladies and their dollies!

It was a super fun birthday party...with some very special friends! :-)

As a prisoner of the Lord, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.
Ephesians 4:1

Tucked into the heart of the Smoky Mountains, over 8,000 students gathered together to be challeneged, encouraged, exhorted, and inspired. TUG...was our winter retreat up in Pigeon Forge, TN. this past weekend. We took sixty of our high school students early Saturday morning and had a BLAST of a weekend.

TUG. Although we all face different "tugs" on our lives the only one that truly matters is the one from heaven to earth. A calling to live set apart...different from those around us. A life that is worthy of the Gospel!
The theme verse, Ephesians 4:1, played out all through the weekend and has now carried over into the students first days back into reality.

The students were challenged to identify what God's call is on their life...specifically. It was a thought provoking weekend that stirred up many tears and convictions...and also commitments. The worship leader, Kristian Stanfill, probably made the biggest impact on our students. His style of leading worship engaged even the most stoic of kids. And the lyrics are now the facebook status of at least half of the students from our trip!

This is my FOURTH trip with the youth group being PREGNANT!!! I guess it has its benefits...I play the sympathy card for almost everything...and the students used me as an excuse to get whatever they wanted! :-) But I must say, I am looking forward to not having every single youth in the world touch my stomach! :-)

I love retreats, camps, etc...anything that allows Jason and I time to spend one-on-one with the students. This trip was such a relationship builder in so many different ways. We watched some of our leaders truly lead while our reserved, shy students branched out and made true friendships.
It was also a time for us to spend with our amazing, die-hard, crazy leaders! We took seven other leaders and each of them had to take a day off of work in order to join us on our trip. Not to mention, the sleepless nights...fast-food meals...and LOUD music! :-) They truly were troopers and we could not have done it without them!
My own sweet children lacked for nothing this weekend! Our wonderful friend, Kelly - along with her sister Allison, kept the children safe and sound all weekend! They had an amazing time doing crafts, scavenger hunts, taco parties, going for late night donuts (ahem...the NIGHT I came home :-) and just all around silliness. Jason and I were so thankful to have such capable, FUN girls watching our kids!
Now that I'm back home there are MANY "tugs" on my life :-) but I am trying to keep the ember going of this amazing weekend!!!
I come to the cross, there I find all I need
Surrender my heart, Jesus, draw near to me
You are my Savior
You are the Lord Almighty, none can stand against Your name
Lord, Your name has the power to save, the power to save
You are the Lord Almighty, there is nothing like your love
Lord, Your love, You have given it all...given it all
Kristian Stanfill

One of Tyler's most treasured Christmas gifts was a camera. He was given a disposable camera while in Disneyworld and had used it up almost immediately. As soon as it was finished, he was begging for another one. Thus, the idea popped into my mom's head to get him a "real" camera for Christmas.
The thrill of capturing your life on film! There is not a day that goes by that I fail to hear the little chime of Tyler's red camera. And this just happens to be...a day in the life of Tyler Jimenez!!!

Quite a few self-portraits!!

Ahem...a picture of schoolwork!!!

And of course, the closet!

Whilst in the closet...another self-portrait!

He wanted to make sure and enhance Jackson's runny nose! Lovely...

Evidence of affection amongst siblings!

So perhaps there is a future for Tyler in photo-journaling...who knows! Or perhaps he will simply capture the ups and downs of life with the Jimenez family! ;-)
